Park Playground Days

Recreation Department summer programming for children age 6 – 12.
Mondays – Tuesdays – Thursdays – Fridays
10:00am to 3:00pm

Join us this summer at in our parks for our summer playground days program. For children age 6 – 12. Activities include arts & crafts, bingo, organized sports and much more for children ages 6-12 (older siblings may not stay while program is in session). Counselors will be at the park from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday weather permitting. On rainy days the park program will be closed. If your child is at the park and it begins to rain, you must be available to pick your child up ASAP. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. A birth certificate and proof of residency are required. Registration deadline is June 17, 2011.

KIDS ON THE GO
Wednesdays
10:00am to 3:00pm

A fun filled travel program for children 6-12 years of age. Every week offers a chance for fun outside of our parks at different destinations in Dutchess County. Scheduled field trips leave from Memorial Park on Wednesdays. Hours are 10:00am to 3:00pm. Every child will receive a
t-shirt that must be worn on Wednesday field trips.

Rain dates will not be scheduled for trips that are “weather permitting.” A refund will be issued at the end of the program for all cancelled trips. Refunds will not be given if you have signed up for a trip but your child does not attend.

For Children 6 – 12 years of age. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. A birth certificate and proof of residency are required. Registration deadline is June 17, 2011.
 

MULTI SPORTS CAMP by US Sports Institute
Experience over 15 different sports from around the world with the US Sports Institute. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship teamwork and most of all fun. Campers will receive Technical Instruction in each sport then experience the sport in a realistic game situation as well as participating in the exciting USSI World Cup Competition. Campers will receive a t-shirt and certificate. This is the only sports camp truly dedicated to children of all sporting abilities.

SPORTS SQUIRTS PROGRAM by US Sports Institute
The Sport Squirts program introduces children aged 3 to 5 to a variety of sports such as Soccer, T-ball, Basketball, Lacrosse and Hockey, all taking place in a safe structured environment ensuring learning is taking place. Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination in which they can Find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin or capture Jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square Pants. All activities promote hand-eye coordination, movement and balance and most importantly Fun, Fun, Fun.

Multisport Camp

Beacon Hoops Summer Basketball Program
Registration is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 18 years old. Games played weeknights in Riverfront and South Avenue parks. This program is run by a team of dedicated volunteers and more are always needed. Signup your child and consider becoming a coach, scorekeeper, timer or team parent too!

Pee Wee 6-7 years old- Monday & Wednesday in July and August
Intermediate 8-9 years old- Monday & Wednesday in July and August
Rookie 10-12 years old- Monday & Wednesday in July and August
Junior 13-15 years old- Tuesday & Thursday in July and August
Senior 16-18 years old*- Tuesday & Thursday in July and August

* Boys only, Must be 18 or under at 1st game
EARLY REGISTRATION IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Each Division has a limited amount of spaces available and registration will be closed when the spaces are filled. Please Register by June 9, 2011

Long Dock Park to Reopen on July 9, 2011

Celebrate the reopening of the new and improved riverfront park on July 9, 2011 from 1pm to 6pm!

Take to the water on a free kayak paddle, try out a new bike on the Klara Sauer Trail, join a guided tour of exciting park features, including Scenic Hudson’s River Center, our new venue for arts and environmental activities. If that’s not enough, you can test your mettle at hula-hooping and enjoy a great lineup of live performers—all while admiring magnificent Hudson River vistas.

Beacon Bike Jam

bike_jam Bike NY is hosting a Bike Jam in memory of Kyle Schmidt, a student that was killed last June while riding his bike after school.

Property Maintenance Ordinance

The City Council passed a new ordinance that limits the type and number of particular vehicles in a driveway, such as ATVs, snowmobiles, waterjets and utility trailers. It also regulates items on front and side yards such as outdoor furniture, car parts, fixtures and more. Please contact City Hall for a copy of the ordinance.

Annual City-wide Yard Sale

The ultimate city-wide yard sale is on for Saturday, June 11, 2011 9am-3pm.

Attention Shoppers
Start at City Hall to pick up your guide to all the yard sales.
Check back here for a downloadable detailed yard-sale map.

Attention Sellers
List your yard sale for $10 or talk to your neighbors and list 3 for $20. Your sale will be listed by street address. This list will be available to shoppers on the morning of the sale at City Hall as well as online for the weeks leading up to the sale. You will also receive a City Wide Yard Sale sign to mark your house on the day of the sale. The City Wide Yard Sale will be locally advertised by the Recreation Department.
Just complete and return the yard-sale registration.

East Main Street Closure

Beginning Monday, May 23, 2011, East Main Street will be closed from Main Street to Leonard Street to allow for the rehabilitation of the bridge over Fishkill Creek. The Bridge will be closed until approximately the week of August 1, 2011. Traffic will be redirected  around the work zone via a marked detour.

Master Plumber/Electrician Exam

Application Deadline: May 9, 2011

Buildings Department Notice:

The City of Beacon Building Department is accepting applications to sit for the City of Beacon Master Plumbers Exam and the City of Beacon Master Electricians Exam. You must have at least seven years of experience as a Journeyman to be eligible to sit for this exam.

Pools and hot-tubs require a building permit

Buildings Department Notice:

Any structure, basin, chamber, or tank which is intended for swimming, diving, recreational bathing, or wading and is capable of containing water more than 24 inches deep is classified as a pool and requires a building permit.  This includes all portable/temporary ready set pools and hot tubs.

Beacon Soccer Club Opening Day

April 9 is the Opening Day for the Beacon Soccer Club youth soccer league's 2011 season. The opening ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Sargent Avenue soccer fields.

Public Housing Waiting List

The City of Beacon Housing Authority will open the Public Housing waiting list beginning April 11, 2011.

Applications can be picked up at One Forrestal Heights, Beacon, NY 12508, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Gross income must be below low income limit established by HUD. For more information visit website www.beaconhousingauthority.org.
