Human Relations Commission

The purpose of the commission is to create and foster a community climate of tolerance and understanding. It inquires into incidents of tension and conflict within the community, and accepts complaints from citizens who perceive that their rights under the law have been violated.

The commission consists of not less than five and no more than fifteen members. The selection shall take into consideration a cross section of the community, including all religious, racial, and ethnic groups within the city.

Some Committees have definite terms of service, some serve "at pleasure of" the administration.  If you are interested in serving on a committee, please complete the Committee Application Form and submit it to: Office of the Mayor, 1 Municipal Plaza, Beacon, New York 12508-2530. Your application will be kept on file for future reference if there is no current opening. Thank you.

    The City of Beacon Commission on Human Relations is holding a public forum to discuss “The Beacon Human Relations Commission at Work.” The program’s featured speakers include Beacon Mayor Steve Gold, Imam Abdullah Wajid, Ernest Martinez and Kim Faison. The program will be moderated by Commissioner Fonda Muhammad and followed by a brief question and answer period.
