The
following is a newspaper article: 1st. Lt. Henry I. Idema of Beacon was killed in action September 16th, 1943 in the India - China theatre of war, according to word received Monday by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter Idema, 25 Masters Place. No details of his death were contained in the notification received by his parents, although further word is expected from the War Department. Word of his death in action was sent by the War Department to Lt. Idema's wife, the former Miss Margaret Brokerson, who resides in Austin, Texas. Lt. Idema was killed the day following his 28th birthday. After enlisting in the Army Air Corps, Lt. Idema was trained at several fields, graduating a pilot and receiving his commission at Ellington Field, Texas. In July he was ordered to India where, according to word received by his family, he was assigned to piloting transport planes fro India over the Himalayan Mountains to China, carrying badly needed American supplies to the Chinese Army. No details are known but it is presumed he was engaged in flying a transport plane at at the time of his death. Lt. and Mrs. Idema were married in June in Texas. Shortly afterward they visited in Beacon. Lt. Idema's last visited home before going overseas. Lt. Idema was widely known in sport circles, particularly
