Thomas B. Carroll, Staff Sgt, was killed in action Feb 19 during the invasion of Enjwetok Island in the Marshall Island group. He was serving with the 106th Infantry, 27th Division.  This division distinguished itself in driving the Japanese from the major atolls of the Marshall Island.

Sgt. Carroll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel A. Carroll, LongDock, entered service in February, 1941. Since January 1942 he has been stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.  Mr. and Mrs. Carroll received their last message from him six weeks before this death.

Thomas attended Beacon High School and was employed by the Newburgh - Beacon ferry company.

Two brothers were in the service at the time, Lt. Francis Carroll stationed n Dallas, Texas and Captain Daniel Carroll, stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas.  Also surviving are a brother Donald , and a sister Marie Carroll.
