John Bump
was the last American soldier from Beacon,
to be killed in action, during the first World War.

He was killed in the St. Sulplice battle by enemy artillery,
on Oct.28th 1918. His is buried at
St. Lukes Cemetery, Beacon NY

He was twenty-four years old when he died. He enlisted in Co. L of Newburgh, and was with the 107th Regiment of the fighting 27th Division in all of its famous campaigns. In the fierce engagement at St. Sulplice his company took a very active part, and he was mortally wounded and died the death of a patriot on the field of battle.

His name and heroism will never be forgotten...

The V.F.W. ladies auxiliary, was so named after
John F. Bump, to honor his name.
