The Evening Journal, Saturday June 14, 1919....

"Born in Yonkers on August 17th. 1818, James J. Tomlins was 29 years old when he entered the service of his country on February 25, 1918.

He became attached to the 308th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, Co. K

He sailed for overseas service on April 6th. 1918, and met his death while gallantly serving his country on October 5th, 1918.

His memory, with those of his comrades who died for the great cause of freedom, will be kept green in the hearts of the citizens of Beacon, his home."
