Private James Sherwin Pittman...
was serving Company C,  First Battalion of Infantry Division, and entered the army Jan 17th, 1966.   After basic training at Fort Dix, N. J., he was sent to Camp Polk, La.,  and was assigned to duty in Viet Nam in July 14, 1966.
 He was 19 years old when he died. Pvt. James Sherwin Pittman died of hostile multiple fragmentation wounds somewhere in South Vietnam in the Saigon area on October 16, 1966.  His body was recovered.
His name is on the Maya Lin wall Panel 11E Line 78.

 

 

James was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Odell Pittman of 569 Hamilton Street Schenectady, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Watkins, 72 Ferry St. Beacon, with whom he made his home. He was born on November 12, 1946 in Cold Spring, NY.  He had attended Dutchess Community College.  At the time of his death he was survived by his family in Schenectady: six brothers, Odell, Earl, Daniel, Roger, Jesse and Daryl Pitman and five sisters, Mrs. Rose Gibson, Cynthia, Darlene, Jean and Jane Pittman.  James graduated in 1964 from Denton High School, Schenectady. 

James was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Beacon NY. 
He is buried at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery to a firing squad provided by the The Stewart Field Air Force.
