The Mission of The Howland Cultural Center is threefold:

1. to protect and preserve this historic building, designed by Richard Morris Hunt and commissioned by his brother-in-law, Civil War General Joseph Howland in 1872, and placed on the National Historic Register in 1972;

2. to maintain a cultural center for the community which promotes the arts and to encourage people to include the arts in their lives;

3. to serve the community by welcoming groups to use the Center for their special events, i.e.: meetings, recitals, rehearsals, fundraisers, etc.

The Beacon Sloop Club's pride & joy is the "WOODY GUTHRIE" , a wooden replica of a Hudson River Ferry Sloop. These boats, styled after Dutch designs, plied the Hudson throughout the 18th & 19th centuries.

Launched in 1978, her purpose is to promote the beauty and wonder of the Hudson River by offering free sails to the public and sail training to volunteers. Only by experiencing the power, serenity and sheer glory of this American treasure will we as a people be inspired to cherish and protect it, and thereby ourselves.

Martin Luther King Cultural Center, Inc.

The Martin Luther King Cultural Center, Inc. (MLKCC) is a community based 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization aimed at serving the needs of the Beacon community and its surrounding areas. MLKCC was founded in 1969 by ten teenagers with the help of several adults. It was originally presented to the community as The Martin Luther King Library; a library dedicated to educating those interested in learning more about Black history. In fact, the library received so many literary donations over the years, that it is now considered to possess one of the largest selections of Black and Hispanic literature in the Hudson Valley! Today, MLKCC continues to strive to improve the quality of life for those we serve. In addition to our library, we provide valuable services to the youth, as well as the elderly in the community.

FOVEA 's mission is to educate through visual journalism.

It was founded to create a space where today’s important humanitarian and social issues can be explored in depth through the medium of photojournalism. Fovea mounts exhibitions by the world’s most talented and thoughtful photojournalists, and hosts events where the public can engage them, and industry experts in discussion about the subjects they have covered.

In an effort to reach the next generation, Fovea also brings photojournalists to public schools in the Hudson Valley where they give interactive presentations to elementary, middle and high school students.

Fovea Editions Inc. is a registered 501(c)3, not-for-profit educational charity. New York State registration #20-98-18.

Built in 1709, Madam Brett Homestead was a stopover for General George Washington and other officers during the Revolutionary War. The oldest house in Dutchess County, it has been preserved for visitors by the Melzingah Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mid Hudson Animal Aid (MHAA) is a nonprofit, independent, no-kill animal welfare organization. Our shelter exists entirely on private donations. Our purpose is to protect and provide for abandoned and abused animals in the Hudson Valley and place them in good adoptive homes. We have many cats and kittens available for adoption. We are located in Beacon, NY and serve the entire Hudson Valley of New York. For years, we have been serving Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Orange, Ulster and Rockland Counties, but we invite anyone from anywhere to come and get involved.

We believe that every member of a community is valuable; should have access to a safe place to learn and recreate regardless of his/her age, gender, ethnicity, cultural/religious background, or economic status and; is entitled to experience the highest in quality and integrity in staff and service delivery. The Beacon Community Center has been providing such to the citizens of Beacon since its reorganization in 1984 and prior as the Neighborhood Service Organization. Each year, the youth program reaches over two hundred youth in its comprehensive after school, summer and teen programming. The Beacon Community Center also has enriching programs that serve the middle and senior adult population. We are committed to programming that fosters excellence, inspires creativity, communicates tolerance and building a stronger more cohesive community.
