The house was built in 1709 for Catharyna Rombout Brett and her husband,
Roger Brett, on land that was part of the Rombout Patent. Widowed
early, Madam Brett went on to become a respected figure in Hudson Valley
mercantile and milling activates. The collection contained in the house
includes many pieces that belonged to the descendants of the Brett
family.

The site is owned and operated by the Melzingah Chapter of the National
Society of Daughters of the American Revolution
Admission:
Adult admission is $3.00. The Homestead is open from May through
December on the first Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 4:00 or by appointment.
Visitation is approximately 1,200 annually.

Mount Gulian Historic Site

Mount Gulian is a restored Dutch homestead from the 1730's Revolutionary
War Headquarters' of America's General von Stuben and birthplace of the Society
of the Cincinnati, our nation's first veteran's organization. The
site has a 1720 Dutch barn and view of the Hudson River. It is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Special events,
changing exhibits, tours are featured. The site is available for
rental.

Open to the public, Stony Kill Farm is an education center dedicated to
enhancing environmental awareness and appreciation of the natural
world. Its 756 acres of rolling countryside, farmland and woodlands
in southeastern New York State offer a special setting where visitors
discover the delicate interweaving of all living things. This working farm
houses cattle, pigs and chickens. The property was originally owned
by the Verplanck family form 1683-1942. It was donated to the State
Education Department and later transferred to DEC in 1972. Seven buildings
are listed on National Register of Historic Places. Admission is free of charge and is open year-round. Accessible to persons
with disabilities. Visitation is 25,000 annually

The Van Wyck Homestead was established in the 1730's by Cornelius Van Wyck,
who had purchased 959 acres of the Rombout Patent from Catharyna Brett in
1732. The house was used in the Revolutionary War as Continental Army
officer's headquarters. The Homestead houses a museum and a local genealogical
library, changing exhibits, a working colonial kitchen and a collection of
paintings by Ammi Phillips.

The site is comprised of Locust Grove the country home of Samuel F. B.
Morse, and the Annette Innis Young Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary Trail
System. The property was originally owned by Henry Livingston, Jr., and
included a farm, sawmill, store and a boat landing. The Italianate
house was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis, and if furnished with
appropriate mid-nineteenth century decorative arts. The trails take advantage
of the varied topography and scenic qualities of the site. Some of the
trails follow early roads to the Hudson River. Visitation is 5,000 annually.

Mills Mansion, located within Mills-Norrie State Park, was home to noted
financier and philanthropist Ogden Mills and is wife Ruth Livingston
Mills. The original home was built in 1832. In 1895, the
mansion was remodeled in a Beaux Arts fashion with lavish interior
decor. It still retains its original furniture in the 65 rooms and 14
bathrooms. Mills Mansion serves as an elegant representation of the architecture of
the Gilded Age, otherwise knownas the American Renaissance
period.
Admission is free of charge. Donations are accepted.

The David Crawford House is an 1830 Neoclassical house that belonged to a
prominent Newburgh shipper in the 19th century. It is decorated with
furniture and paintings from the mid-19th century including Hudson River
School landscapes. Also on display are a collection of the Hudson
River Valley steamboat and sloop models, dolls, toys and children's
furniture of the 19th century and changing exhibits. Visitation is approx
3,000 annually, with many visitors from special events, schools and booked
tours.

Marlboro, NY 12542Gomex Mill House, just north of Newburgh, New York, in
the region known as the Danskammer, is the oldest manor house in Orange
County and the earliest extant Jewish residence in America. The site
is comprised of the 1714 Mill House, slave quarters, ice house, root
cellar and partially restored mill of Dard Hunter-the internationally
known paper maker. Continuously inhabited for 279 years, Gomex Mill
House has been a fur trading post and home to merchant, patriots, farmers,
craftsmen and statesmen and is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Visitation is approximate 5,000 annually.

The John Ellison Home, built in 1754, served as the headquarters for
Revolutionary War generals. Also located on the site are the remains
of the John Ellison Mill and a native plant sanctuary. Admission is free

Hasbrouk House - Gen. George Washington was located here for over a year
at the end of the Revolution. New York State acquired the site in
1850, making it the first public historic site in the United States. In
the 1880's the "Tower of Victory" was installed to commemorate
the end of teh War. The Museum and the house are open to the public. Approximately
20-25,00 visitors annually.

Military history museum included interpretation of Fort Putnam, a
Revolutionary War fort constructed in 1778, restored in 1909 and again for
the Nation's bicentennial in 1976. The West Point Museum exhibits
military artifacts dating from Pre-Dynastic Egypt to the War in the
Persian Gulf. Artifacts include weapons, art work, uniforms, flags and artillery.
Admission is free of charge. In 1993 the Museum had 199,957 visitors, Fort
Putnam had 14,310.

Boscobel, commanding a view of the majestic river valley, is the home of
States Morris Dyckman and is an outstanding example of New York Federal
period architecture. In the summer months it is the home of the
Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. There is an admission charge.

Manitoga, the former home and environmentally designed landscape of
industrial designer Russel Wright, consists of over 4 miles o landscaped
paths for hiking, meadows and "osis" for picnicking and
relaxing, and the opportunity to truly sense the flora and fauna of the
Hudson Highlands in a "managed natural state".

Constitution Island is located in Putnam County across the Hudson River
from West Point. It is part of teh United States Military Academy, a
National Registered Landmark. The Warner House and ruins of the
Revolutionary War fortifications are points of interest. The Warner
House was home of the Warner family from 1836 to 1915. Susan and Anna
Warner were well-known writers in the 19th century.
