Regional Art Galleries, Shops and Restaurants to
Participate in
Monthly Cultural Event Beginning December 14, 2002
BEACON, NY (November 18, 2002)---The Beacon Arts Community Association
(BACA), a new organization dedicated to promoting the city of Beacon as a
center for the arts, has announced its plans for a "Second Saturday"
celebration in Beacon. The event -- the first in a series of planned
monthly celebrations -- will be observed on Saturday, December 14,
when nearly 30 regional art galleries, stores, and restaurants have all
agreed to be open simultaneously, extending their hours until 9 p.m.
Located 60 miles north of Manhattan, Beacon has been described by
The New York Times as "the Hudson Valley’s most promising hot spot for
contemporary art." " ‘Second Saturday Beacon’ will present the perfect
opportunity for art aficionados and casual tourists alike to discover its
diversity," says Ricardo Diaz, president of BACA. "Its timing is also
ideal for holiday shoppers looking for the perfect gift and for seasonal
revelers in search of a festive atmosphere."
Among the participating art galleries and organizations will be the
Howland Cultural Center, the Van Brunt Gallery, The Gallery at Highland
Studio, Ecoartspace, The Framery, Beacon Project Space, ARTtalk, M. Studio
Gallery, Veryal’s Space-Back Room Gallery, Hudson Beach Glass, and Feng
Shui America. Although not formally part of BACA, the not-for-profit
gallery, Collaborative Concepts, will be open in support of the event.
A selection of unique retail, service, and eating establishments --
including Labrie Fine Art Restoration, Kringle’s Christmas House, Gepetto
Woodworks and Juicy Bar -- will also be part of the celebration. [A complete list
of participants, including addresses and phone numbers, follows this
release.]
" ‘Second Saturday’ is a wonderful way to showcase some of the things
that make Beacon a unique tourism destination," says Mayor Clara Lou
Gould. "Art, entertainment, and singular shops are all part of the
celebration, and to have it take place on a historic Main Street in an
area of great scenic beauty only adds to its charm."
A special "Second Saturday Beacon" map, published by BACA, will be on
hand for all visitors, and a free trolley making several stops along
Beacon’s charming Main Street will also be available from noon – 9 p.m.
Additionally, "Second Saturday Beacon" will feature a diverse selection of
live music at some participating establishments, and that evening, a free
"open mike" session will take place at the Howland Cultural Center.
