Department Highlights for 2001
City Services Section
The following list of highlights represents the hard work and
dedication
of the men and women who work for and serve the City of Beacon. A
detailed report is available at the Municipal Building.
Building Department
- $26 million in construction
- Completion of 160 bed Wingate nursing home
- Conversion of Federal Paperboard into Dia in high gear
- 28 permits for single family homes
- 204 unsightly unregistered vehicles removed
Recreation
- Skate park opened
- 365 register for Junior Baseball
- 285 register for Girls Softball
- 120 for Pop Warner
- 375 for soccer
- 285 for basketball
Water Pollution Control
- Almost $4.2 million in improvements completed
- As a result, $107,000 saved on electricity
- Belt press operation reduced by 1 ½ shifts
Water and Sewer Department
- Assisted with water main installation on Matteawan Road and on other road
reconstruction projects
- Replaced 400 feet of Cargill 10 inch transmission main
- Installed water and sewer lines for Brunetto subdivision
- 500 water hydrants painted
- 200 feet of water line installed for belt press at Waste Water Treatment
Plant
Highway, Park, Public Buildings and Recycling
- Reconstructed: South and North Streets, Ackerman, Russell, Vail, South
Chestnut, Cannon and Matteawan.
- 280 feet of storm for Brunetto Subdivision
- 350 storm basins cleaned
- New flags placed on Main Street
- 21 dangerous trees removed
- Athletic fields and 4 parks maintained
- 1,355 residents brought 233.7 tons of debris during free dump period
- Total tonnage handled by Recycling Center 1,786.5 tons.
Police
- Awarded for traffic and pedestrian safety programs
- 1,042 arrests
- 427 detective investigations assigned
- 4,314 traffic tickets issued
- 112 DWI arrests
