Replacement picked for District 19

BEACON -- Beacon resident Norman MacLeod was selected to fill an empty seat on the Dutchess County Legislature representing District 19.

MacLeod, a Republican, was appointed Monday during a joint meeting between the Beacon City Council and the Fishkill Town Board. The district covers parts of the two municipalities, but is mostly in Beacon.

MacLeod replaces John Ballo, who resigned the post last month to become the deputy Democratic elections commissioner in the county. Ballo was honored by county legislators Monday for his 20-plus years of service in the Legislature.

MacLeod will finish out Ballo's two-year term, which ends Dec. 31.
