House sets aside $1.1 million for Newburgh-Beacon ferry
Journal staff report
BEACON -- Beacon is one step closer to re-connecting with
Newburgh by way of a commuter ferry.
U.S. Rep Sue Kelly R-Katonah announced Thursday the House
Appropriations Committee has set aside $1.1 million for a commuter
ferry service between the cities in its transportation spending
bill.
''It's terrific to get ferry service there,'' Kelly said.
''People can just hop over and take the train into the city.''
The two cities are linked by a bridge, which brings Interstate 84
over the Hudson River.
The appropriations committee needs to approve the bill the
funding is attached to. The legislation also must pass the House of
Representatives before being considered by the Senate.
Dutchess County Executive William Steinhaus and Orange County
Executive Edward Diana said they worked together with Kelly to bring
the ferry service back. |
