Joseph Robert Cramer,
Firefighter 
President of Thompkins Hose Company

Gave His Life In The Line of Duty
and in Service to the City of Beacon, 
on January 29, 1955

 

 

Firefighter Robert Cramer was born on February 25th 1914,
son of Joseph Cramer and Catherine Kiernan.  He was
40 years old at the time of his death. 

Robert married Margaret M. Heller in December 1942. He attended 
Beacon High School and Columbia University School of Pharmacy. 
Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. 
He was a pharmacist's mate, first class aboard the US Moose,
which saw service in the Pacific. He was a member of
St. John's Church and its Holy Name Society, Trinity Council, 
Knights of Columbus.  He was an active member and 
Captain of Tompkins Hose Company.

At the time of his death, Robert Cramer was survived 
by his parents, wife Margaret, son John Robert, 
daughter Mary Ann, and sister Mrs. Caroline Du-Bois.

At the funeral of Robert Cramer, the casket bearers were 
representatives of the three fire companies of the city 
and the casket was borne on the Tompkins Hose Company
truck. Delegates from the fire companies acted as honorary bearers.
