The article reads as follows:
"One of the largest, as it was one of the
most solemn and impressive services ever held at Beacon, was the funeral
of Charles Lucy, held this morning.
Literally the whole city paused to pay its final tribute of respect
and esteem to the police office, who gave up his life in the performance
of his duty.
From the mayor and other city officials down to the school children,
the whole occasion was surcharged with the emotion everyone felt, the
respect for Charles Lucy's memory, and the profound sympathy for his
bereaved family.
Services were held at the late residence of the deceased, No. 62
Wolcott Avenue at 9:00 o'clock and were attended by a large number of
men and women in all walks of life.
The remains reposed in a handsome solid oak casket with silver
trimmings in the parlor of the home, and the room was literally filled
with the beautiful floral tributes which had been sent in token of love
and esteem for the departed and in tribute to his memory.
About half past nine the funeral cortege was formed on Teller Avenue
and moved to Main Street, Fountain Square and to St. Joachim's Church...
The funeral service at St. Joachim's was most solemn and impressive.
The church was completely filled and hundreds gathered in the church
grounds....
After the services in St Joachim's Church, the body was borne to St.
Joachim's Cemetery, where it was interred. Father Martin conducted the
committal service. As the body was committed to the earth the scene was
one of great solemnity and pathos. The great throng assembled on the
hillside was visibly moved, and the sound of suppressed sobbing was
heard thought the whole assemblage."
