Recreation Activities
City Services Category

The following list of events and activities are managed by the Beacon Recreation Commission.  Julann Cobb is the Recreation Director

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Summer Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Recreation Department, located in the lower level of the Municipal Building (Beekman Street entrance), provides safe and positive recreation programs to the residents of Beacon and to increase the activities offered, base on their needs. Events

Children's Easter Egg Hunt
Held at Riverfront Park for children up to age 8.  This is held the week before Easter.

Halloween Parade
Held the Sunday before Halloween at the Municipal Center.  Prizes are rattled and candy given to anyone who comes in costume.
Halloween Parade - begins at Rombout School, march down Wilkes St. and concludes at the pavilion.
 

Holiday Tree Lighting and Dessert with Santa
Tree lighting outside of Lewis Tompkins Hose Firehouse followed by dessert with Santa inside.  Refreshments will be given out to all that attend and candy to children age 8 and under.

Community Day & Fireworks
A full day of activities with a Flea Market, events and entertainment for children, a four day carnival & fireworks in the evening.  This is held over July 4th weekend.

University Settlement Camp Pool
This is open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Saturdays and Sundays

Cargile Reservoir
We stock th first and third week in April. Permits can be purchased at the City Office.

Women's Volleyball
Age 16 & older, October to April.
The women play Wednesday evenings at Rombout Jr. High

Women's Softball
Age 16 & older, May to July
The women play on Wednesday evenings at Memorial Park

Men's Open Basketball
Age 35 & older, October to March
Open to men to play on Monday evenings at Rombout Jr. High
Monday evenings at Forrestal School and Tuesday evenings at Glenham

Men's Over 35 Softball
Age 35 & older, April to October
Open to men on Thursday evenings at Memorial Park.

Jazzercise
Open to men, women and teens every Mondays,
7 - 8 pm, Glenham Elementary School
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7 - 8 pm, Sargent School

Girls Babe Ruth Softball

Age 7-18
Played week nights from April to July at Memorial Park

POP Warner Football
Age 6-14
Consists of Flag Teams, Pee Wee, Jr. Pee Wee & Midgets.  Played in the fall at Memorial Park

Beacon Jr. Baseball
T Ball age 5-6, Little League age 7-12, Babe Ruth age 13-15.  The games are played at Memorial Park from April - July

Junior Bowling
Age 4-18 played from September to May.  Bowling takes place at Southern Dutchess.  Bumper bowling is included.

Karate
Age 7 & up from September to June.  Taught every Friday evening at Sargent Elementary School from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.  Additional class for advanced students taught at Forrestal Elem. School Tuesday evenings from 6:00 PM t 7:30 PM.

Soccer
Consists of 4 divisions - Midgets age 4-5, Pee Wee age 6-8, Intermediate age 9-12 & Senior age 13-16.  The season runs Fall and Spring.  The games are played at Sargent Field and Kerr Field.

Tennis
This six week program is held once a week for 6 weeks at Memorial Park.  Any youth age 9 & older can participate.

Beacon Community Center Program for Teens

Friday evenings at the Center include dances, movies, sega, the use of the gym or just as a drop in center located at 23 W. Center Street, Beacon

Youth Summer Basketball
Age 6-18 played in the Summer at Green Street, South Avenue, Martin Luther King Cultural Center and Riverfront Park.
Youth Basketball held at Riverfront and South Avenue

Baseball Camp
Held 1 week in August at Memorial Park for boys and girls age 8-12

Summer Playground Program
Held for 6 weeks at Memorial Park & Green Street Park beginning the first full week school is out.  Registration is held in May for any child 6 & older. We offer arts & crafts, games, trips, swim lessons and much more.
Playground is for ages 6-12

Senior Citizens

Bowling
This is a 34 week season held at Southern Dutchess Bowl every Friday afternoon.

Drop In Center
Held at the Beacon Community Center, 23 W. Center Street, Beacon, every Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Activates include art classes, arts & crafts, ceramics, aerobics, games, movies, trips and a light lunch. Transportation is available if needed.

Beacon Seniors
Meet first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church, Liberty Street, Beacon

Forrestal Heights
Meet second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Forrestal Heights High-Rise on Wolcott Avenue, Beacon

Gadabouts
Meet first and third Wednesday of the month from 1:00 Pm to 2:30 PM at the Beacon Community Center, 23 W. Center Street, Beacon

St. John's Seniors
Meet first Friday of the month at 1:00 PM in St. John's RC Church basement, Willow Avenue, Beacon
